'SISTER MARY IGNATIUS' and 'UNCONVENTIONAL CHRISTMAS CAROL' Set for Equinox, Now thru 12/22

STORYVILLE-THE-MUSICAL-20010101

The Equinox presents Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it All for You on the main stage this month, running December 7-22. The theatre is taking on Christmas and the Catholic school system in our twisted, comedic way with a Christopher Durang classic.

Sister Mary Ignatius is giving a lecture on Catholicism. She tells us what sins send you to hell (murder, sex outside marriage, highjacking a plane, masturbation); and she is assisted by her sweet and obedient student, Thomas, age seven. On cue Thomas recites answers to catechism questions and is rewarded with cookies. Her lecture is interrupted midway by four ex-students of hers, who have come to put on a beloved Christmas pageant, written by Sister’s favorite student who joined a cloistered nunnery. The pageant is clearly the work of an innocent child’s brain, but sounds slightly off with adults presenting it. And afterward, as Sister chats with her unexpected visitors, her attitude darkens and darkens as she realizes all of these students have fallen away from the church’s teachings. The play darkens as the true motive of one of the ex-students becomes clear.

Shows run on Fridays and Saturdays from Dec. 7th-22nd at 8pm. Tickets are $12 for General Admission and $10 for Students/Seniors.

Plus, on the children's stage this month is Bert & Charlie's Unconventional Christmas Carol, playing now through December 22. This puppet show for kids (and adults) tells the tale of two Christmas elves who must teach an old curmudgeon the meaning of Christmas (with the help of his overworked niece) before Christmas Eve!

Shows run on Saturdays at 2pm from Nov. 24th - Dec. 22nd and cost a mere $5 for all.

Both shows are more live, alternative theater brought to you by the freaks at the Equinox (soon to be Verge Theater)! Reservations and info online at equinoxtheatre.com or by phone at 587-0737, ext.1. The Equinox Theatre is located at 2304 N. 7th Ave, in the strip mall across from Murdoch's.
